This service is a clearinghouse for freelance news content, designed for the exclusive use of journalists and publishers. Professional and aspiring freelance journalists are invited to post finished draft news articles on any topic, whether or not they have a publication lined up to run the story. Publishers in need of content can search among an array of different news items posted on this site, categorized by region and genre, to locate content, review drafts, and submit offers directly to the author. Ownership of the article is retained by journalists until a deal is reached with a publisher and the article is transferred, upon which publishers retain complete editorial control and can request changes or revisions as needed. The ultimate aim is to help a freelance journalist see their article run in one single publication.
This site also includes a function whereby journalists and publishers can post classified advertisements for pitching stories or requesting coverage, or commissions. Reptile TM is merely a platform through which publishers and journalists connect, and in no way should we be credited for news items that eventually run, as Reptile TM never takes ownership of any of the content uploaded to our site.
NO PUBLIC RELATIONS PROFESSIONALS OR COMMERCIAL SOLICITATIONS PLEASE. This site is strictly for journalism professionals or people aspiring to enter the field of journalism.
What Journalists Need To Know:
Have you ever had an idea for a story, or come across an interesting or exciting piece of news and information, without any destination for your possible article?
Reptile provides one potential outlet for getting that story to the public.
Journalist members can post an unlimited number of drafts to the site.
Publishers can then view your piece as they search for content to include in their newspapers, magazines, websites, or other media.
They then can make an offer to buy the right to publish your piece, sending to you a "bid" for your article. But unlike a traditional auction, the highest bidder does not win.
You will see all bids and the names of publications offering, and are free to determine to which publication you sell, at whatever price.
By "accepting" a bid that article is purged from the site, and publisher and journalist contacts are exchanged.
You and the publisher are responsible for arranging payment and for any editorial changes or fact checks that may need to occur.
Journalist members can also post offers of news coverage, or pitches, to prospective publications.
Journalists who are members to Reptile are expected to adhere to the highest standards of journalism.
Keep your opinions to your blogs - the aim here is to open up opportunities for active or prospective freelance reporters to get accurate news and information articles published.
By using this site you agree to sell your article to only ONE publication.
Note to public relations professionals -
You are barred from using Reptile. The site may add separate services for the PR industry at some point in the future, but for now Reptile is the exclusive purview of journalists and publishers.
What Publishers Need To Know
Reptile is a clearinghouse for freelance news content.
Articles posted on the site are categorized by genre and region.
You can search for articles you may like to publish in your newspaper, magazine, website, or other media, to be used exclusively by your publication.
Draft articles are posted on the site in their entirety for your review, and you keep full editorial control to make or request to journalists any edits or changes you need should you purchase the right to publish the article.
The site includes a function whereby you may post offers to purchase freelance content.
Publishers and freelance journalists can exchange comments via an internal messaging system.
If a journalist accepts your bid the article is immediately purged from the site and the draft article, along with the journalist's full contact information, is emailed to you.
You and the journalist are responsible for arranging payment and for any editorial changes or fact checks that may need to occur.
You are NOT expected to cite or credit Reptile for content found on this site and used in your publications, nor should you.
The freelance articles posted here are the sole property of the journalists who wrote them, up until the point when they agree to sell that content to you.
Just as you would not credit a library for research material found there, publications DO NOT cite Reptile for the articles they discover here.
Publisher members can also post requests for news coverage, or commissions, to prospective journalists.
Trial membership
Reptile is free for all Publishers. Journalists get a free one-month trial to determine whether the site is useful for their freelance careers. Free trials may be extended upon request.
After the free trial period is up you will be asked at login whether or not you wish to continue as a paid site member.
Subscriptions for both publishers and journalists are $10 per month; billed on a month-to-month basis from the date you submit payment information.
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.
The fee is aimed at keeping commercial advertisements off the site and discouraging those not serious about journalism from using this platform. Subscriptions also help pay for the maintenance and enhancement of Reptile.
